Somerset smiles!

It is Friday and for once I am actually at home and in a position to join in with  Annie's smiles and Rocking your world Friday. My smiles for this week come from my long weekend in Somerset at my parents house.  I went down last Friday and stayed until Tuesday...Alex is still there and I am collecting him tomorrow.  By all accounts he has had a wonderful time, although I am not surprised since the weather has been beautiful and he has been playing outside all day, every day!
We went to my Aunt's house one day, where Alex fell in love with her big fat ginger cat and spent ages happily lying on the floor stroking her.
Alex had fun feeding the pigs on the nearby small holding
digging potatoes and carrots
picking beans and blackberries for his evening meal
and went on various long bicycle rides (to help increase his confidence)
to the park where he had fun.
I got to spend sometime with my Gran
(a very special lady who is celebrating her 89th birthday later this year) and another close friend who I haven't seen for ages and so I also had a fantastic time.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and keep smiling.

Smashing WOYWW!

What!  Wednesday again?  Where did that week go?  Well here is my desk as my entry to WOYWW and you can see I am actually in the process of doing a double page in my smash book.  My faithful mug is full of tea (yes, it does look weak and milky – in my defence it is Earl Grey so never gets very dark!), the pile of stamps from my holiday is STILL there, although some of the ink pads have moved because I am in the process of adding stamping to these pages.
Here is a completed page from the smash book, of our trip to Weston Park where Alex was chosen by the magician to be his assistant.  Needless to say Alex loved it.  It was particularly funny when the magician pretended to leave Alex to run the show and so Alex stood up and said in a loud, clear voice ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you..’  The magician hastily came back then! The writing on the page tells this story so that we will remember it in the future.  I am three months behind in my book so am on a mission to try and catch up!
Just to finish I thought I would post a quick photo of Alex dressed as a cowboy for the cowboys and Indians fancy dress day at Kings camp. That is all from me for now.  Have a great week everyone.

Cycling smiles!

It is Friday and for once I am actually at home and in a position to join in with  Annie's smiles and Rocking your world Friday.  My smiles come from the fact that I am having an excellent summer!  We have been away as a family for a week to the Lincolnshire coast (for photos see here) and then Alex and I went away for another 5 days to my Aunt's house on the Sussex coast.  While we were there Alex finally learnt to ride a bike without stabilisers!  (I hope the video above works - the voices you can hear are my aunt, mother and dad cheering him on LOL!).
We travelled to my Aunt's by train (Alex's first proper train journey) and Alex insisted he had to have a rucksac and pull along case just like Mummy! It was certainly an adventure involving three different trains each way.
We went crabbing at Itchenor Sailing club where my brother caught about 50 crabs to my measly 5!
We also went by boat to the beach where the boys went swimming in the sea, racing down the sand dunes,
and had a picnic lunch
The following day we found a hollow tree to explore
and everyday we got to swim in a friends heated outdoor pool.  It really was a wonderful break away (for more photos see previous post!).  All in all I have a lot to be grateful for.  I hope you all have a nice weekend.

A long weekend away (and WOYWW)

I'm running late for WOYWW again this week, with an apology that I didn't get to see so many of you last week.  The reason was that Alex and I went away again for a long weekend to the South coast to see my Aunt, parents, cousin, brother and respective families. We had a fabulous time including boat rides to the beach,
swimming in the sea (the goggles are new and Alex insisted on wearing them as sunglasses!),
building sandcastles (with Grandad), sand forts and playing boules
fossil hunting with Mummy
and swimming in a friends swimming pool.  Alex swam a width of the pool for the first time. It was a great weekend and I only returned home yesterday (straight into work today).
As a result there is not a lot happening on my desk this week.  The pile of stamps is still at the back waiting to be put away, to the left there is a pile of paperwork waiting for me to have time to sort it, and finally my trusty mug of tea (sadly nearly empty now).
That is all from me for now.  Have a nice week everyone.

I'm back! (WOYWW)

Well I have been missing in action because we have been off on our family holiday!
We had a wonderful week on the Lincolnshire coast with lots of fun had on the beach (you can't go wrong with a big hole!),
rides, roller coasters and log flume (a personal favourite)
and water fights in the paddling pool, and as a result there hasn't been much in the way of crafting done.
Here is my desk in all its glory for my entry to WOYWW...my mug is downstairs being filled with tea as I type. The interesting envelope at the back left of my desk contains train tickets for my next little jaunt away. Beside it is a pile of stamps that I took on holiday with me and never used, then a CD containing photos of my cousins wedding ready to send to him and a card I made for my brother.  At the front is my most recent piece of crafting, the next page in my smash book.
Here is a close up of it...Alex going to beaver camp. I made the background by sponging distress ink through some random cut shapes, then added Lavinia stamps leaf cluster stamp in green and doodled round the central image.
That is all from me for now.  Have a great week everyone.
