Well I’m back again after missing last week due to being at
the coast. What am I talking about and
why am I showing you a photo of my desk?
Well it is part of a world-wide blog hop of crafting desks where every
Wednesday we show you our desks (see Julia’s blog – head desker – for more
details).
As you can see my desk is relatively tidy (for me) so there
is actually space in the middle to craft. Everything else is piled up around
the edges so I can access them relatively easily.
The book in the centre of the desk is my prayer journal
which I fill in every evening – I confess, I took this photo last night just
before bed (hence the lack of tea which is a common feature of my desk) and it
looks identical this morning.
There is a little story behind the parcel on the left hand
side of my desk. As many of you may
know, both Alex and I are into Harry Potter and Alex wanted to get a
subscription style monthly box of Harry Potter things every month. We investigated and decided that they were
far too much money (and often contained things that wouldn’t interest an 11
year old boy) so I decided to do my own.
We nickname it the Owl Post subscription box and it is delivered by his
stuffed owl Hedwig, towards the end of every month. I fill it with cheap(ish) things that I
manage to find that are Harry Potter related and he loves it as a special
monthly treat. Far cheaper and nicer
than a real subscription box.
This photo is of Hedwig delivering a previous Owl Post
parcel.
So last week we were at Sutton-on-Sea for a gentle week at
the coast. Alex and I both swam in the
sea
and we enjoyed a variety of activities including watching a monster truck crush some cars (I will see if I can get the video to work!).
Tim sadly was not well (his mobility and health are worse than ever), but we got him out to the trucks and to a couple of nice restaurants over the week so he enjoyed the holiday too.
I am now back at work while Alex has a week down in Somerset
with my parents. Have a great week everyone.
Love
Caro

What a brilliant idea! Yes, subscriptions are expensive, and rarely do they contain really great stuff!
Happy WOYWW :)

Hi Caro, what a lovely idea! Those subscription based boxes/magazines are an awful price, so good you found a better way to do it.Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4 X
Hi Caro, glad your holiday was so good Caro despite Tim's health difficulties. Love your owl delivery of goodies once a month. Alex must love it. There are a lot of Harry Potter themed shops on The Shambles in York but the items were rather expensive there too. Have a good week. Sarah #21
That's such a lovely thing to do with the owl post, much more personal too! Love it!

the Harry Potter box sounds a great idea, what a treat for Alex. Glad you all managed a good holiday, being buried on the beach brings back happy memories of my own childhood - although we always went to stony beaches!! Thanks for visiting. Helen #2
Hi Caro, thanks for your earlier visit, been having internet problems again but it seems fine for the moment!

What a clever idea your owl post is. Karen 9
Hi Caro, that's a great idea for the subscription box. Plus you know for sure Alex will like everything as you have personally chosen them. Glad you had a nice holiday break, and that Tim was able to enjoy some of it too. Thanks for stopping by earlier. Have a lovely week Heather x #10
Hi Caro. Love the Owl Post idea, such fun. So sorry Tim has been so unwell, good that he could join in a little though.
We had our grandsons for a few days not long ago to help out with child care. Lots of fun. Sadly our Somerset connection gone now - Mum in Sidmouth, Devon.
Thank you for remembering Auntie I will pass on your wishes.

Pleased to see you all had a nice time away. Your Owl post looks like a great idea bet Alex loves it. Thanks for the visit to mine, have a great week and happy woyww, Angela x15x
Love the photos - so happy. Good idea to make the box - can include what you want and at less cost - result! Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a good week. Hazel, WOYWW #20 x
Lovely set of photos this week, Caro. I love your beautiful prayer journal. Sorry Tim not doing so well. Thank you for your lovely comment and especially for your good wishes for my health, and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! Regarding the bread, I've made "normal" bread most of my adult life. Sourdough is a completely different animal! The problem isn't with the flavour, which is fantastic - it's getting the hydration right, and also the moulding so the wretched thing doesn't collapse into a flying saucer!! I know I'll get there in the end - it's just a question of perseverence. With all bread, it's not too bad as long as you understand the science.
Happy WOYWW,

What a great idea to make your own subscription box. They can be really expensive and not all the items are something you’d like or use. I may have to steal your idea. LOL. Have a great week. Dorlene #30
Hi Caro, What a fab idea to do your own Harry Potter parcel.
Glad you all had a nice time on holiday.
Hope Tim has a better phase.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

So sorry to hear Tim is not well at all. Just glad you managed to enjoy your holiday despite this. Your son is a lovely looking young man and you seem so happy the two of you on all the photos you show us. Lovely to see you two enjoying yourselves, takes me back to when my son was small and visits to the seaside were on the agenda. I miss those days now he is a grown man.
Love your Harry Potter idea and Hedwig is gorgeous - Primark has loads of Harry Potter stuff but I have no idea on prices.
Hugs, Neet (and thank you for visiting me whilst I was getting on with my face painting which happily is ready for publishing today) xx
HOPE YOU get this in time - copied from my Money emails
If you visit a Smyths store (find your nearest) from 11am on Sat 25 Aug, you could get some free Harry Potter Lego until 2pm, while stocks last. We reckon this will be really popular and the freebies will vanish quickly, so you might want to get there early.
The giveaway is taking place in all UK Smyths stores and the event will also include 'wand demonstrations'. We've asked Smyths what exactly the free Lego will be but it's staying tight lipped about it. Although when there's been similar giveaways in the past, these have usually included a mini figure set worth around £5.
Smyths has told us that this is 'open to the public', but as it's a toy store it does seem to be primarily aimed at kids. You don't need to buy anything to get the free Lego.
Hugs, Neet xx
Great desk, just like mine, except my work space seems to get smaller and smaller every week. . .until it's the size of an ATC, then I HAVE to clean it up! My DD (32yrs) is also a big HP fan! I love the alternative parcels you decided on rather than paying the big bucks! Good for you! I may give her a HP BDay party next year, and the parcel idea is great! Thanks for your visit, yes you should try ATCoins! Have a great week! Lindart #27
That Owl Post Delivery service is GENIUS! I reckon my two boys (now 25 and 22) would love it even now! Lovely photos of your holiday, it looks like you had a wonderful time and I'm glad that your husband was able to enjoy it as well.

I'm late Caro, sorry! I think you have the perfect solution to the HPotter parcel, I love the idea and that you have a bit of control over the contents. Do you or Alex have any HP stamps? I have a small number that will ever be used here again, if you'd like them I'd be happy to put them in the owl post! Meanwhile, happy days at the coast, you were very brave to go in the sea! Makes me shudder just thinking about it. So sorry for Tim's poor health, but glad that sea air and a couple of restaurant trips will have rung great changes for him. Your desk and it's push back tidying method is just perfection for me. That way, I know where everything is!!
Oh what a brilliant idea the Harry boxes are. You both must have lots of fun collecting/receiving those. Fab holiday pics too. xx Jo
Your Harry Potter, Hedgwig post is a brilliant idea. Looks like a good trip. Thanks for your comment and visit. x
