WOYWW 607

Welcome back to my blog for another edition of What's on your Workdesk Wednesday hosted by the lovely Julia.

My desk has actually seen some crafting action this week, rather than just work.  This is last night when I was messing with acrylic paint effects in my art journal. I think it needs a focal point in the water but haven't decided what or how yet so I am leaving it like this while I think about it!

I have also made a card for my nephew's birthday - the outside is relatively straightforward...

But the inside is pop up.  He is into Minecraft in quite a big way and Alex often plays online with him.

This week saw Sheffield covered in 5 inches of snow much to Alex's delight - lots of sledging made him happy.

I was declared officially mad by my family because I was desperate to swim in the snow, but couldn't get the car out so lay on the lawn making snow angels in my swimming costume!

I got my ice swim a couple of days later. The snow has all gone now and we have torrential rain and lots of wind so no swimming for a few days sadly.

I will leave you all with this photo of Alex having cooked a pizza from scratch - it was a scouts session, which was remarkably successful, although the kitchen looked like a bomb had hit it in the end.  I hope you can find things to make you smile over the coming week - you sometimes have to look hard, but I find there are always a few things to be grateful for at the end of each day and it makes everything feel that little bit better.  Do take care everyone, and if you fancy a chat or if there is anything I can do, let me know.

With love & God Bless,
Caro

so not content with swimming in freezing water..... great pics, Caro! I think your journal page needs a little figure of you swimming in the water.... although it looks much too warm for the water you like! take care and stay safe. Helen #4

Great pop up card idea Caro. Hope Alex found his phone after the sledging. Perhaps a boat on the horizon and a dolphin popping out of the water for the journal page - it looks fab so far. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

I’m clapping my hands applauding your cold water swimming Caro, I’ve seen them doing on the tv a lot and hearing what the benefits are for your health. So well done you and it’s lovely to see your happy smiley face. What a super post this week.

Morning Caro! Yep, your family are quite right, swimming in the snow is surely a mad woman’s past time!!! It was all rain by the time it reached us, so we’ve been without the fun. Those pics of Alex sledging are great, that’s some speed he’s achieving! Very glad to see your desk has some crafting on it, it’s almost *almost* as good for you as a bracing swim! Keep well. Xx

Gosh Caro are you mad, I wouldn't even go in the Med at this time of year. Glad you had your gloves and hat on. Remember the days when my two did their cookery badges, not mention on having to clean up afterwards. Ani#11

Morning young lady. Yup! no doubt about it - officially mad - your family are right! Snow angels - great! But ... in your swimming costume??? Haven't seen that much snow for years - not since we had a girl from South Africa staying with us who had never seen snow, so was convinced she would die if she went out and got cold. Well, the only thing to do was get the sledge out and take her out into it with about three sweaters on! She soon learned how you keep warm in the snow. We made her bring the sledge back up the hill after her turn!
Well done on the card - looks good and I am sure it was greatly appreciated.
Take care dear girl. God bless.

Waiting to see what you do with the water journal pages. Love the snow and pizza pictures. I think I find your snow and ice swimming pretty crazy I am afraid!
Stay safe and keep well.

I love visiting your blog, it's always fun and always lifts the spirits. I loved the Minecraft pop up card - what a great idea. The snow looks fun but perhaps in a big triple lined coat and thermals!! Lovely photo of Alex with his pizza, it looks tasty.
Hope you have a good week and stay safe and well,

I love the idea of swimming in a bobble hat! I notice that you swim in your specs; have you not heard of prescription swimming goggles? I wouldn't be without mine, in fact I only learned to swim properly when I discovered them aged 29. I was sat in the optician's for a routine check-up when I noticed that they had swimming goggles and diving masks on display. I mentioned to the optician that I'd have never thought of coming to an optician for those and he looked at me like I was an idiot! (Turned out, I was!) "Well, of course," says he, "we put prescription lenses in them!" Being able to see clearly gave me the confidence to be able to swim properly. If you don't have any, get some. They're not expensive and your optician can use your prescription to order them. You just need to choose what colour you want. xx

I love the snow angel pics....you must find it so invigorating but I have to say rather you than me. It must really wake you up but I will choose to stay snuggled up in the warm. I love Alex's cooking session. We have been searching out healthy recipes and doing lots more home cooking lately.

You are bonkers but we love you!! That blue water page is lovely, you can tell you had fun creating that and I’m sure an idea will spring into your mind soon. The inside of that birthday card is amazing, my son was into Minecraft in a big way, his 18th cake that I made for him was made of minecraft blocks, lol!!

Great card Caro - Ben has Minecraft Lego and loves all the little figures -(not allowed to play it on the computer though). I love your watery background but feel a few chunks of ice floating around might be missing! lol. Take care and stay safe. xx Jo

Your page obviously needs a swimmer LOL! What a cool Minecraft card - my son still plays Minecraft occasionally - he used to be addicted! I'm so jealous of your snow - we haven't seen any proper snow for the last three years. I guess you need a certain level of madness to make snow angels in your swimsuit - still I'd rather do that than get in ice-cold water - I think you need to be slightly more mad to keep doing that! Alex looks pleased with his pizza - I'm sure it tasted great! Take care Caro! xx zsuzsa #18

Wonderful! Snow swimming indeed. and your Minecraft card is delightful - my son flirted with it for a while but think he was too old for it to really grip him. Shame, as I could have knitted him a Minecraft jumper much easier than any of the games he DOES love. Ah well...

Happy WOYWW, with another late start

We have decided here that you must have some sort of medical problem that stops you from feeling the cold Lol! We are originally from South Yorkshire about nine mile from Sheffield and so we know how cold it can get. When we leave Lincoln to go to my mum's even in summer the temperature always drops down. We've had some snow here but not as much as what you've had. Alex makes me feel happy as he always seems to have a smile on his face. Take care and have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x14x

Carol, love the acrylic effects in your journal! I really must get my journal back out and get in there. Of course in between everything else I want to do! LOL I REALLY LOVE the Minecraft card! Super cute! I love Minecraft. I'm not real good at it, but I do make stabs at my little "world!" He will love that card! Fun sledding pix! Too funny! And, you continue to be my swimming in all elements guru! I'm with your family...MAD I tell you, mad! LOLOL You are redeemed however with the snow angels! :) Stay safe, WARM and healthy! Felicia #27

You certainly find things to make you smile, I should have popped by earlier this week as I've been rather down and had a bad tummy too.
Loving the water in your journal, boat, whale or lighthouse jump to mind. Minecraft, oh I remember those days with my son too, cool pop-up.
You look fab in your swimsuit in the snow, good for you and good for Alex baking too. BJ#13

Snow angels in your swimming costume? Glad you kept your hat on 🤣. We haven’t had enough snow to make a snowball, let alone swim in. Lots of rain today. Lots of things make me smile, seeing a Robin in the garden, watching my dogs play, clicking on your post and seeing you and your son’s smiles. People often smile back if you smile at them! Have a great week Angela #6

Love your card and water painting.

Happy WOYWW. Mad, just mad. I can’t even swim in the sea or unheated pools until it is very hot. I need heat for my sore and stiff body. Perhaps you should add an ice swimmer with woolly hat to your journal page?! Ali x. #26

Lovely post, Caro! I have to agree with your family that you are completely mad!! So nice to see so many smiley photos, and well done to Alex for the great looking pizza. I remember my mum complaining about exactly the same thing (state of the kitchen) after my early cooking efforts, too. I like your watery page and look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Happy belated WOYWW and God bless,

Thanks for your return visit, Caro, and I'm glad my hubby's antics amused you! He does make me laugh sometimes... I often wonder exactly what does go on inside his head! Re my blender, not sure about the small claims court... The ball is back in their court for now and we'll see what happens next.

Hi Caro, sorry for the late visit. If I had to guess which desker would have wanted to swim in the snow, it would have been you. The Minecraft card looks great - I'll have to remember that for my grandson's next birthday. Have a lovely week, Heather xx 28

You are right about being able to find something everyday to be grateful about. I write something down daily. Yesterday it was that I "asked" for a parking spot on a street and at a time when there are never any parking spots, in front of the hospital. When I got there, there was my spot, perfectly directly across where I had to be, and right beside the kiosk to buy my parking ticket. Couldn't have been better! Even on the most horrid days we at least have things like a roof over our heads, or heat, or electricity.
I still find it difficult to watch you swimming everyday! And in the snow too! How do you not get hypothermia? You must be one hot-blooded gal!
Your card is very creative, I hope he got the minecraft link!
Thanks for your visit, have a great week, Lindart #29

Hi Caro, lovely seascape. If it were mine there’d be a dolphin. Your minescape pop up design is brilliant!
BRRR ice swimming?? I’m glad you enjoy it, it must keep you fit. And lying in the snow in your cozzie? Double BRRRR. I love your pics, and you’re so right about finding things that please you.
Take care
