It is Wednesday and after missing one week I couldn't bear to miss joining in with WOYWW...it is a bright spot in an otherwise challenging world. I am so grateful to Julia for hosting this wonderful blog hop.
This is my desk (photo taken on Tuesday evening) which is in a very unusual state - I am actually sewing! I hate sewing with a passion as no matter what I do I always seem to get the thread tangled and knotted and it never looks neat, but anyway, greater love has no Mum than she sews on her sons endless Scouts badges. To be fair it is about time I got on with it, as I haven't sewn on a single one since he joined Scouts two years ago! So there you have it, a large scouts shirt, hundreds of badges, my ipad for something to listen to/semi-watch while I sew and a much needed large mug of tea.
I have managed a little crafting amidst the chaos of trying to sort out MSc students who are supposed to be doing laboratory projects in labs that we have had to shut - redesigning lots of projects is time consuming and stressful. In addition to that I am having to learn on-line teaching software (I am in the vulnerable group so am working from home where I can). Playing with colour has been a bit of a therapy - no plan in mind, just colour on the background of some pages. It will be interesting to see how they turn out in the end.
Last weekend saw Alex having fun with 100 other Scouts outside getting filthy while competing in the Hallam Trophy. He was the muddiest Scout in the place and had a fantastic time. While he was doing that I was busy prepping for the services on Sunday - I led both the Morning worship and the evening Encounter service this weekend as part of my training. They are sadly the last services we are able to hold for a while due to the coronavirus shut down so I am glad that they were uplifting ones.
I wanted to leave you with this Bible verse which I personally find very comforting. It is hard in the current climate not to feel anxious, but I know when I give my anxiety to God I am definitely more at peace. Take care of yourselves and stay safe.

Good to hear you son had the opportunity to get together with fellow scouts have some fun before it all went crazy. Wonderful verse you have chosen and I do hope you are able to juggle all your work commitments. Stay safe and keep crafting.

It's good to see Alex had a great time....the dirty face just proved it lol. It's a worrying time for us all Caro but I'm a great believer in being sensible but carrying on as best as we can.

I think that technology will come to be a blessing for churches over the next few months while services are suspended. Hope things happen quickly so folk are able to access the support and worship they need. It must be so difficult to try and rearrange your students from a distance. And the pic of Alex made me LOL, muddy boys seemed to fill my life a few years ago, I miss it!

So glad those scouts and Alex had such a great time before the closing down of everything. We need to blog more and share our crafty activities if we are all housebound! You should get Alex to do a Sewing Badge, then he can sew his own badges on! I still have Michael's last Scout shirt which includes the Chief Scout Gold Award Badge. I hadn't even known he was going for it and, when I found out, I asked him what he had to do in order to get it, he said, "Just stuff."! The delights of having an autistic child! He's 25 now and doing his 2nd Master's Degree.

These are strange times and all we can do is sit, craft and wait... we're not homebound completely in Holland (we are still alowed to go outside) but social isolation, yes, and no gathering in groups. The place I work closed its doors (as do the schools, pubs, restaurants and most shops) most of my collegues work at home but I was a temporary worker and because I cannot do the work at home, I am unemployed now. It feels strange to have no job all of a sudden... I can come back when everything is over but noone knows when that will be.. I can't seem to get myself to being creative today so I'm glad I have my online friends to visit! Take care, stay healthy! Big virtual hug from the Netherlands! Marit #21
These are indeed strange times and I pray we all stay well and happy. Here in my area people ran through the grocery stores and cleared the shelves of many things. Luckily I was able to get my monthly shopping done a few days before. I always try and shop for a month as I live on a fixed income and my check comes once a month. I have decided to stay in until I have to shop for food or medicines. Try to stay well my friend.

Love the pages - very pretty colours and the mandala style design is gorgeous. Well done for getting down and sewing the badges on, not the nicest of sewing jobs is it!

Hi Caro. A gorgeous page, lots of manic sewing, a great cuppa... what more can a mum want. And now you know that Alex will be at home for the foreseeable future!! Oh my - things are changing so fast. May we indeed know Father God's provision of peace through this time - how blest we are to be able to communicate via the phone, the internet, Skype, whatsapp... the list is endless. But for those who have no access to these things - life will be hard and very solitary. My prayer among many, is that we will see a real rise in Biblical prophecy as we seek God for these times. I also led last Sunday - and what a privilege that was as God came among us.

Someone was looking after you letting you get your preaching in last weekend. Thank the Lord. Now you have lots of time (apart from college work) to prepare many more.
Pretty pages in your journal and what a great job you are doing sewing those badges on. I remember y mum sewing mine on each time she washed it. I loved my mum!

Hi Caro. I did smile at the tale of the Scout badges. Two years is a long time to wait, but maternal love overcame the hatred of sewing in the end! You should be a proud Mum too - Alex has clearly done really well to earn so many badges in the first place, and he always looks to be such a lovely, happy chap in his photos! However, my question is - can Scouts earn a sewing badge? If the answer is "Yes", could Alex not be steered in the direction of earning that one next?! It could be reframed as an essential survival skill - e.g used for patching a tent, perhaps, or even stitching up a whittling-related injury in the wilderness? Obviously, once earned it would be important to practice/maintain that skill with regular badge-sewing sessions...
Keep up the crafting amongst the chaos - those pages look lovely!

I was certainly ready to erm, lecture you about being vulnerable. But also Caro, don’t over do it. Easy for me to say I know, I don’t have MSc students champing at my heels or new software to learn. Argh, I feel for you. I would offer to do the sewing but you really do seem to have cracked it mostly! Of course, scouts should learn to sew too...if nothing else to teach them to sit still for a few minutes! Alex looks so happy and healthy and I’m deeply impressed that he’s happy to be photographed too, what a lovely boy! Hope you 3 can stay well and weather the storm. Xxx

Hi Caro, I smiled at the pic of badges to be sewed on. I have two daughters, both were in the Brownies/Guides, the local swimming club, gymnastics, and one daughter was also in local athletics club - more badges and large ones at that! I feel your pain! Glad Alex enjoyed his day out with the Scouts, my girls loved all the adventures they went on. Hi Caro, well done with the sewing! Sewing on scout badges or name tapes and things like that is really boring sewing so I don't blame you for having put it off! Sewing to make something is quite different, I think. I love your colourful album page. I am glad you are able to do some work from home, and that Alex was able to have a great outdoor time with his fellow scouts. Getting all muddy is part of the joy of being a boy!! Thank goodness for modern washing machines...
That Bible verse is one of my absolute favourites. It always annoys me that in the Anglican Church liturgy only part of it is quoted, and the first part is omitted. The peace of God which surpasses all understanding is conditional on our doing the first part!
Thank you for your lovely comment. From your photos, you don't look as if you needed to go to Slimming World! The kitties don't understand about social isolation and like nothing better than to cuddle up together lol! The latest favourite place is in my box of double knitting yarn which is downstairs at the moment while I make my bunting. I'm not self-isolating as such because I'm always at home 90 percent of the time anyway, and my hubby's regular activities have all been cancelled so it's lovely to have him at home a bit more! - not least because I can make sure he is eating the right stuff!

I'm glad to hear Alex had some outdoor fun with his scout group so many children are going to miss their friends with the shut down schools and groups. Neighbours today had a Birthday Party for their youngster it was so nice to hear the laughter of children oblivious to the changing world around us. I hope it is not too long before I hear that sound again.
