May Day bank holiday seems to mean lots of Fairs here in Sheffield. Alex and I went to Endcliffe park yesterday afternoon to discover that there was a little fair on with stalls, a drumming workshop, a bouncy castle, face painting etc. Alex was not up for the idea of face painting, but the bouncy castle and African Drums were a great success.
While on our walk through the park we came across a heron...quite impressive for a city centre park.
Today we headed over to Bakewell where there was a 'Showground spectacular' which consisted of a display of lots of old lorries, jeeps, trucks, diggers, cranes, tractors and cars.
Needless to say Alex, as a total vehicle freak, loved it,
especially when some of the owners let him sit at the steering wheels.
The other aspect of the fair was a whole host of fair ground rides, so Tim took Alex on his first ever dodgem car which he loved, and he had various goes on the little rides as well. It was actually remarkably cold considering it is now May and started to rain so we didn't stay very long, but long enough for Tim to have a hot dog and me to buy some fresh, home-made baclava.
Crafting wise I have made my design team entry for the Quirky Crafts challenge which starts today. The challenge is 'Going postal' and i made this vintage styl e card for the challenge. I just love this picture of the girl sat at a desk writing a letter so I mae my own background using some K&Co paper as a base and stamped some writing in Adirondack butterscotch ink and then stamped the postage mark in the top right hand corner in cranberry. The lace on the lefthand side was made by my Gran about 20 years ago! The layout of the card was adapted from this weeks Fridays sketchers, and the card also fits with the Crafty Creations 'make your own backgrounds' theme.
I also made a scrapbook page using inspiration from 'Scrap it with a song' which I discovered yesterday. I may be too late for the challenge which is to make a scrapbook page based with words from a song. The song this week was 'Once upon and dream' and I used the line from the song 'that gleam in your eyes' for my inspiration. It was really the central photo of them all that captures that line of the song, but there is a similar gleam in Alex's eye in all of them. The title of the page was hand drawn to fit with the patterning of the paper and it is 'Such Fun! (puts a gleam in your eyes). The journalling reads 'Alex loving every minute of our various trips to the Ranmoor Playspace. Nov-Dec '09'. As such this page also fits with the Tuesday Taggers 'memories' theme. The page also fits with the 'Lots to do' theme of faces, since it focuses on Alex's face and happy smile! I would love to know what you all think of these projects. Enjoy Bank holiday Monday!
Love,
Caro
