Costume making (WOYWW)

It is Wednesday and time for another WOYWW, the biggest and best excuse for a nose around the desks of the world hosted by Julia.  Here is my desk, still looking neat and tidy, but this time it has a beard (yes, you did read that right) and a medieval style hat complete with feather for a Little John costume for Alex.  His class have been doing Robin Hood as their topic this term in school and are going to school for a walk and picnic dressed as characters from Robin Hood.
Here he is all dressed up as Little John being fierce with the staff.
I was surprised how well the costume turned out considering I really do NOT do needles and thread etc. The hat was made from the bottom of his brown cord trousers and a feather a generous pigeon had left on our lawn!
I  made the staff from foam pipe insulation covered with brown carpet tape and then string in the middle.  It was a lot safer than the wooden swords and bows that many of the other kids had!
I have also managed to complete another page in my smash book this week, of the May Day bank holiday (yes I am behind again!). I am entering this into All Sorts 'Fur & Feathers' challenge as the page features photos of both birds and animals.  That is all from me for now.  Have a great week everyone.
Love
Caro

Hey he looks awesome what fun to dress up like that it makes me want to be a child again. I always got right into the costume thing when my children were at school.

Thanks for sharing.

LOVE that beard! The costume is great and your Little John looks like he's quite enjoying his character.

Good thinking making a softer staff. :-)

Brilliant costume! Love the butterfly house layout- I do love to visit them. Although I can understand people who don't like them landing on them. I'd feel the same about a spider house, lol. Have a great week, Hugs Shaz xx #50

Didn't you do well with the costume? I'm impressed..you should do more sewing! And didn't you look great at the wedding in your earlier post..what a lovely day you all had. And I remember my boys loving the fact they were all grown up and away from us at times like that :-)

Alex looks smashing as Little John! Good idea about the foam vs real wood! I'll keep you posted about the white ink. I've seen it used on several mixed media art blogs so I'm giving it a try. It stay wet quite a long time so I have to heat set it before I do more or it would smear. Thanks for the earlier visit. Happy WOYWW! Nan G #104

Little John looks perfect and well done on pulling it all together when you do not do sewing. Love the smash book, we will never catch up with the photos because there are so many wonderful moments to capture.

What fun you have been having with making the Robin Hood costume. Thanks for showing us. I used to love doing that when my kids were little and I remember my parents and I remember my parents doing it for us.
Yet so many parents just go out and buy stuff these days, they miss out on the anticipation of making things and seeing how excited the kids are about seeing teh finished things.

Even though needle and thread may be foreign to you, you did a fantastic job with that costume. Nice to think outside the box when it came to his safety, too.

Thanks for visiting me earlier. I'm not sure how late LATE is, but I'm here to wish you a beLATEd WOYWW from #2.
