WOYWW 611

Welcome back to my blog for another edition of What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday - courtesy of head desker, Julia.  This week we are remembering the lovely Shaz who passed away peacefully at the weekend after battling cancer for so long.  She was a truly wonderful person who's kindness and sense of fun touched so many, and we will all miss her immensely.

My desk this week is covered in a jigsaw (and my trusty mug of tea).  I do love a jigsaw but don't do them very often as in our little house there is no where to leave them up while I work on them (Alex is doing school work on the dining room table, our coffee table in the lounge is too small, and I have to work on this desk during the day). I was delighted to discover that the white Ikea picture frame was just the right size to fit this 1000 piece jigsaw on so I can work on it on my desk, then move it onto the bed while I work during the day.  I am enjoying the challenge for a change.

I haven't done much crafting this week - other than make this Valentine's day card for Tim.  The Bible verse was actually a stamp that I picked up on the swaps table at the last WOYWW crop in 2019, and I heat embossed it in gold. A clean and simple card overall, but Tim liked it.

This weekend Alex and I went on a rather challenging walk across very icy paths to this beautiful disused reservoir.  It is one of my favourite places to swim, but this weekend the ice was so thick that there was someone ice skating on it, and Alex was able to sit on the ice.  People had kept a small hole open in the ice so I was able to dip into it, and had fun making the hole a little larger for the next people. The water temperature was ~0.8oC, and the Air temperature was -3. I loved every minute of it.

That's all from me for now. I am pleased that the weather is warming up (our snow has finally melted and pavements are safe to walk on again) but will miss the fun of swimming/playing with ice.  Take care and stay safe,

With love & God Bless,
Caro

Well done for completing the puzzle but truly I take my beanie off to you..... swimming in the reservoir with a layer of ice. I'm still shaking. Have a creative week.

Have you ever tried doing digital puzzles? Sometimes I do them (my daughter love them) and while they are not as much fun as the real thing, they don't take up any space :)

Something about that thought of "dipping in" to a hole in ICE makes me go all shivery but I can see you had fun doing it!

You might see you inspired me to take on a diary project for 100 days, when you pop over to my blog. Thanks for that (without a hint of sarcasm, in case you wondered!

Hugs to all on a sad WOYWW day.

Shaz was a great crafter and friend, there have been some lovely shared memories on the blog this morning. I love jigsaws and am able to leave them out on the dining table but that frame idea is genius! You’re a mad woman going swimming in all that ice but if it makes you happy then worth every second!

That's a beautiful and elegant card for your husband. I'm glad you found the perfect size 'tray' for your jigsaw, they can take up so much room - our usually lives under the sofa.
Glad you are enjoying the ice - just the thought of taking a cardi off in that weather fills me with horror.
Have a good week,
Diana xx #22

How thick the ice must have been if people were skating on it. Good to see you in it rather than on top like Alex.
Lovely Valentine card and how lucky was that re the jigsaw.
Blessings, Neet 17 xx

Great photos of the icy weather Caro - I shiver at the thought of dipping in that icy water. We have 11 degrees and a very pleasant day here so had a good 45 minute walk and feel refreshed! xx Jo

I’m sorry I’m so late visiting this week. I’ve been head down making Memory bears this morning.
I always love the photos of your wild swimming and this week was really extreme. Brrrrrrrr

OK, if you hadn't shown me the pictures, I wouldn't believe you! That is seriously crazy - and awesome at the same time! How can you bear it? I bet you received some incredulous glances LOL! The valentine's card is lovely - simple and authentic - which is the kind of love that lasts! I always work on puzzle boards on the floor, but it can be a bit uncomfortable - I never find enough desk space to spread everything out! Looks like you're well under way with yours and it's detailed enough so it shouldn't be too hard - although too much detail can be confusing as well. Good luck with it all. xx zsuzsa #31

Hi Caro. A lovely Valentine card for hubby. What a gorgeous stamp! How big is it? What a treat - the picture frame being just the right size to take the jigsaw. Brilliant! That water sounds COLD!!!
Take care. God bless.

Hi, Caro!

My thoughts have been of Shaz, my virtual friend, as well. Getting to know her better from all of the tributes. Thank you.

I have a rubber stamp with the same verse. It is laid out in the shape of a heart.

It has been cold here, 10* F, with snow, but I get colder just looking at your pictures

Sending hugs

Kathryn

Good grief, I admire you so much! I have started with the cold showers though on your advice (just towards the end). My friend's brother in law lives in Canada and is a climber and adventurer and he had to break through the ice with an axe before he swam last week. I'm in huge awe of you both! Love the look of that puzzle too - it looks right up m street as I only have patience for ones with lots of contrast. Much love on this difficult day, Lisa-Jane #7

Caro, how great that your puzzle fit exactly!! That's always the rough bit about puzzles.....housing them while you work on them. You can't just move a whole puzzle unless it is on something other than the table you are working on!! I do love working on them though. Too fun! Your card is super cute. And, what a great swap...of course I love that verse!! Once again, your swimmy photos are chilly, to say the least! LOL What I found so humorous is that you are wearing a hat and gloves while swimming! So funny! But looked to be a beautiful spot just the same!! Blessings to you and have a great rest of your week! :) Felicia #34

the valentine for Tim is lovely! Shaz will be greatly missed by all of us, for sure. Love those icy photos - so glad it's a bit warmer now though! Take care and stay safe - enjoy the jigsaw! Helen #2

Hi Caro, great Valentines card for Tim. Both hubby and I forgot it was Valentines Day, and when I did remember I wasn't really in the mood for cardmaking. I really can't comprehend what it must be like swimming in such cold temperatures - have you always done it, or is a recent thing, or you are just nutty lol? We are all still in shock over the loss of Shaz, we really have lost an amazing woman. Take care, hugs Heather xx #19

Great Valentine card! I used to do puzzles all the time but when I started crafting, all else fell by the wayside, except my reading.

I am sitting here freezing and seeing you in that icy water is not helping! :D)

Hi Caro, I was telling a friend about your swimming and I don't think she believed me until I showed her the pics. You have fun my friend. Got myself some jigsaw puzzles, just have to clear a table to put them on. Happy woyww, Angela x18x

What a crazy lady you are🤣. Swimming with the ice! Why did they keep a hole in the ice? Were their others enjoying the water? Have a great week. Angela #21

Brilliant, genius use of the picture frame! We have a puzzle on the go nearly all the time now, we have a breakfast bar which is a novelty new thing for us, so it’s important that I keep in use. Margaret and I have been swapping puzzles by post, and then passing them on locally...if you’d like to have a pick of a couple do say, I’ll include you in the pictures we choose from! The reservoir ice is incredible, amazing how it thickened to that extent...get the ice skaters couldn’t believe their eyes when you plunged into the big hole!!

What a beautiful card for your hubby, Caro! You really are a crazy nut. I trust you didn't get sliced by all that ice! The beanie hat to keep you warm just creases me up every time I see it.

What a sad week it has been and how we shall miss our lovely Shaz. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face today instead of tears.

God bless, and have a good week,

I found one of your bookmarks yesterday after having to clear up under my desk as the drawers had filled up and spilt out, Nice surprize, so I put it on my shelf! I was just checking to see if I'd called in, I did, but... I think bloger sometimes just doesn't send the messages! That lake looks sooooo cold! Have a crafty week happy WOYWW ((Lyn)) #6 this week, #19 last week! Stay safe!

Thanks for visiting this week, Caro, even though you aren't taking part in WOYWW. I do hope the work on the house will soon be completed, and isn't causing too much mess and disruption. I can well understand you haven't got much time or opportunity for desking at present. I'm glad you're enjoying the progress on the cat blanket. Still quite a lot of work to do but the end seems in sight with the completion of all 80 squares.

Happy WOYWW and God bless,
