Family weekend!

We have had a busy few weekends with visitors and visiting so decided that this weekend was going to be family only.  Despite a couple of major tiredness induced irrational tantrums we have had a lovely time.  Yesterday followed the recent tradition of shopping, cleaning, tidying etc in the morning then swimming in the afternoon where Alex is desperately trying to float and swim...he loves the water so much, bless him!  Today we decided to have a family trip out to Kirlees Light Railway, as Alex had been asking to go on a 'big' steam train.
Kirklees is a narrow guage railway so isn't actually a very big train,
but was big enough for Alex to be happy.
He was fascinated by the steam train  (called Badger),
and enjoyed looking out of the window at the sceenery going past.
He especially liked the excitement of going into a tunnel and the train whistling when it went in and when it went out.
At the return station he was given a lollypop and we bought him an 'Action Chugger' so he was one very happy little boy.  We all enjoyed the trip out together and it makes me look forward to our holiday even more. Only a month to go!
Crafting wise I have had fun this weekend trying out some new(ish) techniques and ideas.  I made this relatively simple card using coredinations cardstock which I embossed using my Cuttlebug, then sanded to make the design pop out a little more.  As a result the card fits with the embossing challenge by OCC and the distressed challenge by CCC. This card also fits with the peridot theme from DCM.
I made this scrapbooklayout of my Gran holding her youngest great-grandson Nicholas.  I decided not to go for traditional little boy colours, but instead focussed on Gran and made the layout pinkish in design, so as a result it fits with the cute and girlie theme from Creative card crew. The colours also fit with the photoinspiration from Stamp something. The layout follows the sketch from Sketches {by Tamara}. I am also entering this into Pollycrafts 'fit for a princess' challenge, but I leave it to you as to whether or not an 85 year old counts as a princess! I think she does, but there again she is my Gran so I am biased!
Finally I broke away from anything else I have ever made before and tried a different style of scrapbook page, based on this weeks Sketchy Thursday sketch. To be honest, I can't decide whether or not I like it, but it also fits with the 'white and bright' theme from PTW and animal antics from Creative craft (I count birds as animals).  That's all from me. Have a great week everyone.
Love,
Caro
