WOYWW 573

I can't believe that another week has flown by since the 11th Anniversary of What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday.  Don't know what I am talking about?  Then check out Julia's blog as she is our head desker!

Here is my desk as it was last night having made a quick, clean and simple card for the family who have just moved into the rented accommodation next door. You can see my cuttlebug, a fresh mug of tea, some crayons, stamps, and pens.
I forgot to take a photo of the card, so here is another clean and simple card made for my 16 year old nephew who is a gamer - hence the theme!
The only other bit of crafting I have done this week was a page in my Bible illustrating one of the lesser prophets. I have been suffering from a lack of mojo, hence very simple.
The other main activity of this past week, in addition to work, has been wild swimming.

I wouldn't normally start wild swimming so early in the year, but needs must! I cannot begin to explain how good it has been for my mental health even though the water temperature is around 12oC.
Alex has enjoyed it too - unlike me he is in a wetsuit - but mostly because he has been treasure hunting.  In fact he has loved it so much we have been 4 times this week.
This is some of his 'Treasure'. Believe me when I say there is LOADS more!! The fact that Alex is unlikely to go back to school until September is a bit daunting to us both (it is hard work getting Alex to do school work while trying to work full-time myself), so I have to have hope in God's love, strength and support through this.

Hello Caro. Like your simple style card.
I admire your 'Wild Water Swimming' but could not do it, I would be terrified. Happy to swim in a pool but not when I don't know what is beneath the water. 🙂 I used to love to go in the sea but I don't enjoy that now :-(
Think our eldest grandson may have some contact with teachers - he is almost 15 and if course due to sit GCSE's next year but the other 3 aged 12 ( 13 this year) and Phoebe who is 10 well who knows? Hope that it will not be too stressful for you and Alex. Take care. Anne X

Happy WOYWW. Wild swimming - you crazy person! My friend goes weekly to a beach near us (well, she was until Lockdown - here in Wales we are still on full restrictions, which includes no swimming), and tries to persuade me to go. I get a lot more pain if I get cold, so I firmly decline. I love CAS cards. Fantastic to see a Cuttlebug. I had one many years ago. I haven't had a diecutting machine for a few years, but had some dies I wanted to use, so treated myself to an electric Sizzix, which will hopefully arrive later. My Cricut Maker and old Silhouette Cameo are fantastic, but it is mainly the quick and easy embossing I miss. I am 'attending' a virtual Bible Journaling event on Saturday. Have you heard about it? The Bible Art Journaling UK group on Facebook have all the details. Ali x #3

You're both doing so incredibly well under very trying circumstance - hopefully the easing of lockdown can mean meeting some friends maybe? The wild swimming looks brilliant, I was always in the sea from May but am a bit of a wuss these days, lol! The CAS card for the gamer is perfect!

Look at all that treasure Alex has found, there's some lovely found objects there indeed. I recognised that card was for a gamer! I do love your Bible journal piece nice touch with the hand showing off the ring. Enjoy your wild swimming but stay safe Happy WoywW Tracey #16 xx

Morning Caro. Well I thought I was certifiable taking two trolleys around a supermarket... but... WILD SWIMMING??? - before the water has had the summer to warm up? Love Alex's treasure - it's great. Will he hoard it, or make something with it? I love your cards, but especially your Bible page - what a beautiful image - God has us on His hand the whole time! A signet ring is usually marked with the owner's initials or something, too. WONDERFUL to think He has known us since before the beginning of time. Wahoo!! He will indeed give each one of you the strength, courage and help during this time of lockdown .
Take care dear girl with your lovely family. Stay safe. God bless.

Well done Alex for finding those amazing treasures and to you Caro for braving the fresh waters. I wish I could find such amazing history when I go out foraging. Must say that youtube clips about mudlarking on the Thames became a must be me during lockdown. Beautiful bible journalling and prayers for you as you juggle being a mother/teacher and work from home. stay safe

Oh my!!! - I haven't been wild swimming in decades now :) I might try it. You really have busy days with a child at home and work yourself. Can not be that fun after a while. I am sure you both have a great time being out in the "wild" for treasure-hunting.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Happy WOYWW

Oh the photos look blissful Caro but I'm afraid you wouldn't get me in the water. What a coward I am. It took me years to be able to swim a pool length as I had great fear of being out of my depth! Now I prefer a warm pool or blue Mediterranean sea! Well done on all you have done with Alex - you really are doing a fantastic job and he is having a lot of fun and making lots of memories. Let's hope he can soon get back to school and a bit of normality and routine - it helps such a lot, I know. Hugs xx Jo

Fascinating that there’s so many bits of pot in that particular location. I wonder if they used to hurl all the broken and useless things off the bridge over some years? Love social history and the speculating! Of course its hard to get ALex to do studying, and `I would imagine that as every day goes by it gets a bit harder. But, its half term this week, take heart that you wont have to bribe cajole, order and dread every day until September, the summer hols are coming to save you! If he wants a project, how about mosaic it all his finds into a table top for the garden or something, sell them on Etsy for a small fortune! How kind of you and how like you to make a welcome card for your new neighbours; don’t under estimate the impact of such gestures, really.
I would love to try some wild swimming, I see your glowing face and am a bit green about the good its doing you. But as I get older, so I am unable to bring myself to jump into cold water, it’s pathetic and causes Bart a lot of sighing and Not understanding when we go away!!

Wow, bet that wild swimming is so exhilarating, lucky you being able to do it so privately. Plus it is so good for Alex, I suppose it gets rid of some of his energy and look at those fabulous finds!
Love the card for your nephew, the kind of card I like.
Take care, I admire the way you work so hard with your son
Bless You

What brilliant photos of you in the water, really made me smile. I can't swim - bad experience at Grammar School - but I love watching and admire those that can. Will Alex's treasure appear as a mosaic at some point in time?
have a good week

Lovely CAS card - I didn't know it was for a gamer as I don't know anything about gaming, but it looks very elegant and effective. I love all the bits of pottery Alex found - I have jars full of old pottery, some I've found, but also for particular colours like mauve or teal or a lovely bit of pattern I have purchased them from Etsy and Ebay - they are quite popular.
Have a lovely week and I hope you get more swimming in, it sounds fun,

I love your daily updates on Facebook Caro...as for your wild swimming? brrrrr. I used to love swimming but I've never tried the wild version. I'm sure treasure hunting would draw me into the water too though...what fab finds.

Hi Caro.
Ah Haggai, page looks great.. a minor prophet with prophecies for this time, "Now therefore, says the Lord, consider you ways!!!"
Didn't know that about a signet for Zerubbabel though.. well, have read bible through many times, so have read it but not to recall that bit! Very interesting.
Wild swimming looks soo much fun. But I'd want a wet suit too.
My friend in France has a son Alex's age.. she's struggling the same way as school still closed.
Happy WOYWW 😊
Thanks for sharing, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X 6

Good morning, Caro. What a lovely way to spend the day! Love the card. What did you use for the black dots? almost looks like finger tip prints. No desk for me this week as I deal with a personal security issue. Thanks for visiting last week. Creative Blessings & Hugs! ~Kelly

Hi Caro, I love your card. I actually think that CAS cards are some of the most difficult to make them look complete but this looks great. It's lovely to see you having the chance to spend so much time with Alex and I love his treasures. Wishing you a lovely creative week and a happy woyww, Angela x19x

hi Caro, oh my gosh that is something I have said to hubs more than once when they tell stories on the news of people coping with being cooped up and you know trying to be the teacher and work from home and on and on. (that I am really glad this happened after our son was an adult because, I am sure I would not have managed this well) Love all the treasures too. (( HUGS )) hopefully you guys will continue to find things that are interesting while you are waiting this out. ~Stacy #32

So many questions today :). First of “Wild Swimmimg”, do you just pick a river and swim? Similar to Ali, my body gets a lot of pain if I get cold, so not for me. Do you worry about pollution? Secondly, where do you go treasure hunting? That’s just what I loved to do as a child and still now. You would be amazed at the bits and bobs I have all over the place, mostly out of sight of my husband! I used to go to car boot sales and buy interesting things, one of them is a collecting tube for old sixpences to save for the Radio Licence. He tends to think of it all as rubbish! My daughter is working from home too and has two young children. She gets up at 4;30 so she can make a good start before they get up. I worry about her. May God keep you and bless you x Angela #31

Good for you with the wild swimming, Caro. We used to swim in a local river when I was growing up and it was always absolutely freeeeezing!! I always loved swimming and until I got ME, I used to swim a mile a week at our local pool and did a couple of sponsored swims. Unfortunately I can't do it at all now, and even going for the disabled slot and just floating about, getting out I felt like 20 ton Tessie and was exhausted fr the next 24 hours, so it simply wasn't worth it. I used to enjoy swimming so much, but no good looking back - I now enjoy doing other things instead! I always say the Lord gives us times and seasons in our lives and we have to hold onto things lightly so that we are willing to let them go if need be.

I love Alex's little treasure trove! What absolutely gorgeous little pottery fragments. Definitely art fodder. Well done making some cards even if your mojo has gone on holiday for a bit - your Bible journaling is really lovely.

Happy belated WOYWW and God bless,

Hi Caro, thanks for your return visit! Like you, I am running very late this week and still have loads of people to visit. Part of the problem is the glorious weather - spending lots of time hanging out the washing, eating out of doors and then spending all p.m. today knitting in the sunshine! I can't work the computer out there because the sun's so bright I can't see the screen. So glad you liked our wedding photo! I can't believe it was 34 years ago... Thank you for your good wishes for our anniversary too.

Hugs and God bless,

That 'simple' gamer card is amazing, I am going to remember this 'cause I have some gaming sons-of-friends having a birthday this summer! And the treasures Alex got out of the water, gorgeous! You can glue those on a (flower) pot or make a little corner somewhere in or around the house, I'm a 'hoarder' for things like these (and stones, and shells... ) Sorry I am late too this week, happy belated woyww, have a nice weekend! Love from Holland. Marit #25

Wow, what a fabulous place to go wild swimming! I keep being told it will help everything but I don't like swimming anywhere other than a pool or a VERY clear, shallow, calm sea! I'm intrigued by your banner shot too - those stone circles are wonderful. I have a Cuttlebug that I pulled out recently but the handle broke off many years which makes using it... interesting...! My 13 year old son is happy enough with cyber school and we are debating sending our 11 year old girl back but at the moment it's a no. So hard to know what to do! Best wishes, Lisa-Jane, #23

Hi Caro! Don't worry about being "late" visiting, I don't consider late until Tuesday evening! I can only see so many blogs before I need to do something else, so I span my comments out over the week. I love your simple cards and art, sometimes simplicity is best! Alex certainly has found some wonderful treasures, now all he needs to do is pretend to be a museum curator, and research and tag them! Great way to spend a summer! He could have quite a collection by the time school starts again. It really would be interesting to see where they came from, what the pattern was, what year they were from, etc etc! Have a great week, Lindart #33
